Gundrun

Gudrun in Norse traditions, is a tragic figure from Germanic mythology, most famously appearing in the Nibelungenlied, a Middle High German epic. She is introduced as a noble and beautiful princess of Burgundy, sister to kings Gunther, Gernot, and Giselher. Her tale begins as a love story with the mighty hero Siegfried, whom she marries. However, after Siegfried is betrayed and murdered by her brother Gunther and his vassal Hagen, Kriemhild is consumed by grief and an overwhelming desire for vengeance. She later marries King Etzel (Attila the Hun), using the union to exact revenge. Ultimately, her quest for justice leads to a catastrophic massacre, ending with her killing Hagen and being slain herself. Her story explores themes of love, loyalty, betrayal, and the destructive nature of vengeance, portraying her as both a grieving widow and a relentless avenger, evolving from a gentle heroine into a fearsome tragic figure.
